We went on a family holiday to Lossiemouth last week, a small seaside town near Inverness in the north of Scotland. We were there with my partner's family - his mum, dad, older brother and his girlfriend.
We arrived on Saturday 2nd of August. The house was beautiful and roomy. There were three bedrooms which were spaced in different areas of the house. We were assigned the downstairs bedroom en-suite beside the sun lounge to make it easier to let the dog out. The others' bedrooms were at the back of the house in the extension and upstairs.
The first evening was hot. We sat out in the back for a while and caught up with each other. Later a few of us went for a walk to the beach. It was our dog's first time at the beach and she was loving it. She did zoomies on the sand and played with the other dogs. She was so well-behaved for her first time and we were so proud of her.
The next couple of days were super windy and wet. We stayed in and passed time by playing board games. There was a Scottish Monopoly set in the house so we played that. I came in second place against my partner's brother. I used to enjoy being the banker but now I would rather be anything but - there's so much counting.
Tuesday was my birthday - August 5th. I didn't expect much that day but it ended up being the best birthday I could have hoped for. My partner made me a really delicious cooked breakfast first thing in the morning. After breakfast, everybody filtered into the sun lounge and gave me presents. I got a new wireless keyboard, personalised notebook and stationary, a couple of colourful bowls that match the colour of our living room at home and a bottle of white wine. For much we went to Harbour Lights, a beautiful restaurant situated right by the docks. Safe to say the food was exceptional but what really made it special was the surprise birthday cake and everybody singing 'Happy Birthday' to me! It was the first time anything like that had ever happened to me. The cake was diary-free and one of the best cakes I had ever tasted. My partner's birthday present to me was a boat ride to go dolphin watching but unfortunately it got cancelled due to high winds. Instead, we decided to go into Inverness to watch the new live action movie 'How to Train Your Dragon' and have dinner at a hotel restaurant in North Kessock. The movie was amazing and the food was delicious.
The rest of the holiday was great. We went out to eat, swam in the sea and saw a sea lion, went a driving range, visited some nearby villages, one of which included a small fishing village called Pennan that was featured heavily in a movie my partner likes, Local Hero. I took pictures of him next to the famous red telephone box.
My partner's mum taught me how to Scrabble. I have since developed a slight obsession to it because I realised I'm actually quite good.
Overall, I really enjoyed out holiday. The place was picture perfect and the company was fantastic.
